There are multiple ways to block someone on Instagram. People aren't notified when you block them.
Block or unblock an account from your Instagram settings
Tap
or your profile picture in the bottom right to go to your profile.
Tap
in the top right.
Below Who can see your content, tap Blocked.
- To unblock someone on your blocked accounts list, tap Unblock to the right of their name. Tap Unblock again to confirm.
- To add someone to your blocked accounts list, tap in the top right and search for the person you’d like to block. Tap Block to the right of their name.
- To block the account and other accounts they may have or create, tap Block at the bottom to confirm.
- If you prefer to only block that account, tap next toBlock [username]. Tap Block again to confirm.
Block or unblock an account from a chat with another person
Tap
or
in the top right of Feed.
- Tap the chat with the person you want to block/unblock.
- Tap the person's name at the top of your chat.
- Tap Options in the top right.
- Tap Block/Unblock, then tap again to confirm.
Keep in mind
- When you block someone from the Instagram app, it will block their account, other existing accounts they may have or any new accounts they may create.
- If you choose to block someone's account and other existing accounts they may have or create, this will not apply to other accounts of theirs that you already follow. You’ll need to block those accounts individually.
- If you’re in a group chat with someone you’ve blocked, you’ll get a dialog asking whether you want to stay in the group or leave. If you choose to stay in the group, you and the blocked person will be able to see each other’s messages in the group.
- If you don't want to block someone, you can restrict them, delete their comments from your posts, or block multiple people from commenting on your posts.
